How to collect my ADx 100 blood sample (with video)

Collecting a blood sample with your Everlywell kit is simple. Instructions can vary by test, so be sure to follow the specific directions provided for any tests that use the ADx 100 card.

Step 1: Register

  • Go to everlywell.com/register to register your kit. The lab cannot process your sample unless you register your kit.
  • Write your name, date of birth, and collection date on the card. The name must match the one you used during registration. The lab cannot process your sample if this step is skipped.

Step 2: Prepare

  • Check if fasting is required. Some tests that use this card require fasting. Refer to your instructions and plan ahead.
  • Set up your space. Open the gauze pad and bandage. Remove the collection card and locate the square on the left side—this is where you will place your blood drops.
  • Get your blood flowing. Warm your hands with hot water, then shake them at your sides to increase circulation.

Step 3: Collect

  1. Choose a spot on the side of your ring finger (either hand).
  2. Clean the area with the alcohol prep pad and let it air-dry for one minute.
  3. Twist the top of the lancet to open it.
  4. Place your finger against a firm surface, press the lancet firmly against your fingertip, and listen for the loud click. The lancet will puncture only once.

  5. Wipe away the first drop of blood with gauze.
  6. Allow 4–7 large, free-falling drops of blood to drip into the collection square on the left. Do not touch or tap the card with your finger. Let the drops fall naturally, about 10 seconds apart.

  7. Blood placed on the left square will soak through and expand into the rectangle on the right. Do not place blood directly on the right rectangle.
  8. When finished, apply the bandage to your finger.

Step 4: Package Your Sample

  1. Once the blood has soaked through and reached the first line on the right side of the card, place the card on a flat surface to dry completely (at least 30 minutes, up to a few hours).
  2. Place the dried card into the blood sample return bag, leaving the preservative packet inside the bag.
  3. Put the return bag into the box, then place the box into the return envelope. Apply the prepaid return label to the front.
  4. Seal the envelope and drop it in the mail.

Collection Tips:

  • Always drip blood onto the collection square on the left—it will naturally expand into the rectangle on the right.
  • Blood must reach the designated line on the right. This can take time, so be patient.
  • Aim for 4–7 large, free-falling drops of blood, about 10 seconds apart.
  • Do not touch the card with your finger and do not add blood directly to the right rectangle.
  • Allow the card to dry completely before packaging.

Reminders:

  • Do not use heat to speed up drying.
  • Some tests that use this card require fasting—please check your instructions and plan ahead.
  • Only use the lancets provided in your kit. If you need additional lancets or help with collection, please contact our Customer Experience Team.
