How to collect a FIT Colon Cancer Screening Test sample
Collecting a sample for your FIT Colon Cancer Screening test is simple. You do not have to avoid any foods or medications prior to collecting. If you have cleaners or bluing agents in your toilet bowl or tank, remove them and flush the toilet twice.
Step 1: Take the instructions, Brush Kit, and Test Card into the bathroom. IMPORTANT: Flush the toilet BEFORE your bowel movement.
Step 2: After the bowel movement, do not place used toilet paper in the toilet. Use one of the blue waste bags to dispose of toilet paper. Do not flush.
Step 3: Use one of the blue brushes to brush the surface of the stool for about 5 seconds. If the stool is loose, stir the water around the stool. Gently shake any extra debris off the brush.
Step 4: Transfer WATER ONLY to the test card by gently dabbing the brush onto the white square labeled "1”. Staining may occur.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 using the second blue brush and apply WATER ONLY to the white square labeled "2."
- Do not collect the sample if you have hemorrhoids that are bleeding.
- Do not collect if you have blood in your urine. If so, please contact your doctor.
- Females only: Do not collect if you have experienced vaginal bleeding within the last 3 days.
