Why are some samples rejected by the lab?

The most common reason that a sample may be rejected is if there is not enough quantity of the sample collected. This can vary by sample type:

  • Not enough blood collected on the card
  • Not enough saliva collected in the tube
  • Urine that is too dilute

Another major cause for sample rejection is missing patient identifiers (Example: No name written on the card). If you suspect that your sample was collected incorrectly, please reach out to our Customer Experience Team and we will be happy to evaluate it for you before you return it to the lab.
