If I test positive for an STD, what should I do?
If you receive positive STI results, then you should share the results with your healthcare provider who can discuss a treatment plan and/or establish follow-up testing. Our physician network will contact you as a courtesy to discuss your results in more detail and offer the initial treatment if applicable. However, on-going treatment should be discussed with the healthcare provider overseeing your care. STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis can be treated with antibiotics whereas others such as HIV can be managed with medication and monitored closely.
If you are in a relationship, you should abstain from any further sexual activity as well as talk with your partner who may also want to get tested. You’ll also want to talk with any recent sexual partners about your diagnosis.
